I've a number of outrunner motors. Will there be a problem (with regard to the adjacent magnetic field) if some are stored 'naked' in the same compartment within an outer box? These motors would of course be touching in this condition

Storing motors side by side will not be problem at all. The thing to be concerned about is swarf ingress, the magnets are so strong that any swarf within several inches will be instantly drawn to the magnets inside and rendering the motor useless unless you wish to dismantle it and pick the bits out one at a time. Place each motor individually in a plastic bag or wrap it in cling film. This will help avoid the shock should the motors bang against one another (or be attracted by magnetism) which could cause a magnet to come adrift.

I always bag any brushless motor when it is going to be loose on the bench as they will grab swarf from anywhere.

These are my thoughts anyway.
