Swapping gear in a Ripmax trainer

My son bought me a pair of Ripmax type plastic trainers last year and I would like to have a bash at getting them airborne. I did get a circuit out of the Ripmax Commander last year, but then the rubber band powered rudder return packed up.

This is making me wonder whether I couldn't swap out the R/C"brick" they come with for some lightweight modern R/C. I have a Spektrum Dx5e and an Orange tiny Rx, as yet unbound together. Assuming a pair of 3 gram servos would replace the weird string servos in the brick, what ESC would I need. The motor is brushed and once again the ESC is all part of the "brick".

I must say the flight last year showed it to have plenty of power, from a 6 volt NiMh pack. In fact it was pretty quick in the sky after we got the hand launch right.

Has anyone done this to the plastic pusher/foam wing brigade?

Cheers,

MrTin
