![]() 351 forum posts 213 photos | One Monday evening in August I was sat in departures at Edinburgh Airport worrying that the baggage handlers would be rough with the Weasel EVO I had packed into my bag. We were heading off on a week of treking, exploring, wildlife photography and possibly a bit of slope soaring (for me anyway) The Faroe Islands are a collection of islands in the North Atlantic at 62 degrees between Scotland and Iceland. The place has always fascinated me and always looked an ideal place to slope soar. I had tried to get in touch with a few locals who fly, they mainly fly indoor and electric. The islands are ideal for slope soaring with coastal hills rising to over 800 metres and 750 metre shear sea cliffs, there are also numerous DS suitable ridge lines to fly. There are suitable flying sites everywhere, some are car accessible and some need a bit more of an effort to get to. I am already planning a future trip for next year, the Weasel will be going again along with a mouldie - not sure which to take yet! As far as I am aware (from talking with some Faroese RC enthusiasts) I might have been the first to fly unpowered gliders on the islands. Edited By Conwy Soarer on 31/08/2015 12:02:10 |

The weather on the Faroes is quite challenging, its nothing for all 4 seasons to happen in one day, and there is a saying - if the weather is bad wait 10 minutes! |

![]() 1896 forum posts 5 photos | NICE!!!! MY sort of place! I flew OVER the Faroes on Thurs and again yesterday, but luckily at the time wasn't gliding................... I spent in between those flights wondering why nobody seems to fly slope or power in Iceland (apart from the supervisor coming from the tills and stopping you that is) |
