The swap meet is always brilliant, made the same old mistake of buying a couple of hitec 225 servos on Saturday for a nostalgic 40 size build, only to pick up 3x 5425MG (What I really wanted but couldn't justify the price difference given the project) for £15!...still you can never have enough servos!!...New wooden zinger props for DLE20 for £2 each!!...for a mate...old fella bagged tonnes of ESC's and "bits", nothing over £1 paid...all work ..

I was after a vintage pattern type, but my mate who turned up half an hour after me and started at the other end just beat me to it...£45, brand new kit from the 1980's...cutlass I think it was....

When I hear people saying.."theres nothing much here, its all tat."....open your eyes!! have a rumage...tonnes of good stuff..ones mans tat is another mans gold...

My best bargain was not going, saved over £180 in camping and petrol costs and I don't know how much in the bring and buy.....wink Then I bagged a 30cc canister and manifold in the bmfa classifieds!

I've been after building a single-channel slope-soarer for a while but found a lovely mint Irvine Pixie at the swapmeet for £20 including servos, receiver and battery, complete and ready to launch! Its an ideal S/C model, small, light, stable...

Also bought one of my favourite Corona receivers just a pound - a synthesised RP4S1. Brilliant little receiver.

Very happy with my lot!

Not a swapmeet purchase, but my pal Doug bought a new 60 from the PAW stand, a huge 10cc diesel. Its a pussy cat, so docile, not at all like small fingerbiting diesels. And the tick-over is just amazing. Lovely engine, and British to boot!

Cheers
Phil

Got a OS 61 FS for £40, a SC 52FS for £20, with prop/spinner, a box worth over a £100 of bits for £5, which came with new scalpel blades, a charger, power panel, brand new spark plug, loads of other bits and bobs.

Got some props for 10pence each such as a APC 15x8, Master 15x6/16x8 and Classic 16x8 for a 10 pence each!!! If I break a prop, 10p is much better than £10!

Yeah, but not the atmosphere. Sitting at home on the computer is not as good as going round real aeromodeling style at the Swap Meet and seeing real people and having a good walk in the process.

I go the swap meet for 2 things , mainly the haggling , and annoying the "junior" by getting some thing he missed ,

Problem is I always give it him anyway , !

If you go with an open mind you will never be disappointed , but I have not got to the bottom of my £1 bag of bits yet .

I did get a very well used Formosa , complete , but in need of a little TLC and a bigger motor perhaps ?

But its all good fun and well natured .

I did hear someone say, possibly not aimed at me.???

Quote " Problem with these old gits , they do a lot of talking about old things they remember but never buy owt "

cheers

We concluded that some sellers just dont want to sell, they're only there so they can say to swmbo "well I tried my best to sell all this junk, just like you asked..." then happily take it all home again!

We tried for 5 minutes to get the asking price for an old Kraft 2ch transmitter, we got the life story, a detailed but inaccurate technical description, loads of history, loads of advice about how they can be converted to 2.4 (really? would you ever! ) but no price!
I really dont think it was for sale!

Cheers
Phil

Some things were not worth it. Remember asking how much a OS30FS was, and he wanted £150 for it, and someone else selling props, probably £8 new, for £10 used, you know they won't sell.

There's always some good buys, some people ask silly money though, me I bought a wrap around pits for a 50 petrol took a gamble on the hole centres and it paid off. smiley
