Just happened across this clip, of an episode of The Avengers, which shows that RC ARTF Warbirds are nothing new. Oh and that sometimes keen aeromodellers are sometimes the baddies

If you don;t want to watch the whole thing Mrs Peel's posing as a highly unlikely model shop assistant is at 4:25, whilst the flying scenes are at 46 minutes onwards.

Enjoy

Seam to remember a model battleship firing a broadside from the boating lake to assassinate someone?

Thanks for that. A fascinating documentary. wink It is good to see that rubber bands holding the wing on are a perfectly good scale feature!

No idea Percy! I was actually a bit old at the time for that programme, but I was captivated by the aeroplane and boat that Ratty & Co travelled in...

I think that "Aeromodeller" even got a mention in one of those Avengers episodes.

Best of all was the Childrens Film Foundation "Sky Pirates" from 1976. Only managed to find a 5 minute clip on Youtube, but I seem to remember the whole film there at one time, although I believe the CFF now hold the rights, so may have removed it.

I never realised that the old Futaba M series had mode swapping "on the fly" - Maggie is blipping the throttle with the right (wrong devil) stick when she starts up and Mike uses the left stick to open the throttle to take off.

...who says you can't learn to fly on a Spitfire - and all without the aid of buddy boxes!

In  "Sky Pirates" I like the clip at 1:41 where the man and girl are holding their TX up at eye level, I usually see that pose at our field just before a cry of 'oh no' and a loud crunch noise!
