Charlatan Plan problems

Hi.

Has anyone else used the Charlatan plans RC2155 from the Jan 2016 issue?
I have cut all the parts out using the plans as the templates and then when starting the build the parts do not match the plans. The size of the wing ribs do not match the wing plan even though they are on the same page. Several other parts are off by a fair amount as well. The parts were traced in CAD and laser cut and the measurements in CAD are exact to the plans.

Is there a correction to this set of plans or errata. Has anyone else run into this?

Thanks
Andy

Hi Andrew and welcome to the forum.

That doesn't sound good does it? I wonder what others have found, too.

I drew the original plan by hand.

The rib templates were generated by Profili software, and then printed to thin card. The cut-out card templates were used to draw the profiles on the plan, and also to draw onto the balsa itself.

I'd also like to hear if anybody else had problems. I've had correspondence from a couple of happy builders - neither of whom reported any issues.

Thanks Tim.

Wasn't sure if there may have been corrections published as we don't get the magazine for several months after it's published here in London,Canada.

I suspect it has to do with the translation from paper to digital to paper and then me converting to digital again.

Any small differences can get magnified. So I will chalk it up to my local print shop who did the scanning.

I have stretched the ribs slightly and recut and they fit nicely now. Same as the other parts that were slightly off

So hopefully no offense taken Tim.

Love the magazine and Love your plans. This is the first of yours for me but I know I will be building more.

Thanks for the great designs.

Andy

Did you get the proofs to check Tim?

Only on a small scale.

Andy, I'm glad you've got things sorted out anyway!

I transferred direct from the magazine plan to the balsa/ply sheet.

No problems, everything went together well and the finished article flies well.

See 'Pilot's Pictorial' in the May issue.
