Its a little notelet that you can add that people can view if you have a public profile. - e.g. Gone Flying or Building something. At one time the OCD in me made me keep it up to date. I am trying to fix my OCD so now I don't bother but it still irritates me.

Yeah - Martyn is spot on - its something you can set if you want as sort of "what am I doing now" flag. The problem is you have to reenter it every couple of days - you soon get bored!

So, is BEB's current status, “Elf building!”, and Martyn's, “UKCAA Aurora in progress”?

If so (as that is what I can see in their public profiles) then shouldn't the status be displayed along with the avatar and post stats beside every post? That might make it a little more useful.

As it is, having to go and visit somebody's profile to view their status seems to make it about as useful as a chocolate teapot. No wonder nobody (or almost nobody) uses it. Or perhaps lots of people use it but I never see it as I never visit their profiles...

Dear John,

Blaming people for doing or not doing something in which you do not have any interest at all by "NEVER visiting", will very probably help the community a lot further along the road... yes

Nah - all that tells you is how long it is since I updated my profile/status! And that in turn tells you how useful I think "staus" is. But point taken - I should have a look at my profile and think about refreshing that at least! wink 2

BEB

PS Just to show willing I have updated both my profile and my status! And I think I've found the perfect status - one I can have all the time!

Eh? I wasn't blaming anybody for anything! Just suggesting that a feature of the forum which appears to be of limited use could be made much more useful by a simple change. (ie. by displaying the status more prominently)

[EDIT]  Or have I missed your point completely and you were agreeing with me?  embarrassed

I think, knowing McG, that that was very tongue in cheek remark John! I'm sure he meant no offence! I think he's saying the facilty does nothing - as you are - and I am!

Hereby my apologies if you felt offended, John.

BEB is right here and clearly my language incompetence combined with my idiosyncratic 'second degree' joking totally missed the point here. Sorry again & thx for clearing it out BEB.

Thanks Boys for your input, I 'sorta get the general idea of setting one's status! BEB I'm happy to draw a line under this one , but I'll leave the decision to you . Regards Barrie

Thanks for the info. I've now set a status that is both accurate and enduring...

Chris - no apology needed!

Mike - I like it. I think I'll change mine tomorrow. Or maybe the next day. Or....
