Essential RC News: We've upgraded from the old HD handycam to a Panasonic AG-UX180 4K professional camcorder. This means that you can select to view future Essential RC videos in 4 times more detail than our previous 1080P HD videos. What do you have to do? Just click on the 'gear' button in the bottom right of the player, and select the highest available playable resolution.

You may find some graphics cards may not be able to cope with playing 4K. If that happens, just click the next lowest resolution. It will still be significantly better than HD. Clicking Full Screen is also advised for maximum viewing pleasure. Enjoy !

Our first 4K video...

Rarely seen T-27 Tucano turboprop. Interesting fact I wasn't aware of is that there is no physical connection (i.e. no shaft) from the engine to the prop. The efflux from the turbine exhaust spins an impeller connected to the prop. Very efficient apparently and results in up to 50lbs of thrust just from a 60 size engine. Also sounds amazing.

Here's another flight I caught. Very late afternoon. Almost dusk. But showed off the light system to maximum affect.

Quite a distinctive sound these Futuras have. Does it classify as a howl?

Relatively new T-One Models Fortune sport jet. Flies so well as seen here in the capable hands of Steve Higgs.

Thanks Jos. He's obviously a talented pilot. No low risky flying. Smooth and easy to follow. My type of pilot.

Travelled to the quarterly Classic Jets event at Abingdon last Friday. Some may recall it was the foggiest day of the whole Christmas holiday maybe even the year...but one brave sole flew his new jet...

Sharing the second flight of this awesome little sport jet. Getting better at tracking the thing in the sky. It doesn't hang around so it's quite a challenge.

Not long now until the start of the 2017 season. Here's a reminder of some amazing jets from past shows and events.

Yup...never been anything like it since. Great shame. Doesn't get any more realistic than that version flown by Ali...although I think I've seen vids of a restored full size flying.

Such a shame the RareBear isn't in production any more. Can only hope it's been dropped in favour of a new version or similar model coming this Summer. Here's a reminder of how FAST this projectile could fly. Stock setup is 4S but only advisable change was to swop the plastic clevis for a metal version. Other than that....drop in a 6S3000-4000 pack, launch at half throttle and then put the pedal to the metal...

I wouldn't say cheap either Jos but when you see it flown like that you can see what it's capable of in the right hands. The low slow rolls do it for me but I think the AS3X system helps a lot with smoothing out any turbulence.
