Hi all

Down to the field to day (really warm) anyways 2 more flights on the RIZLA + nice like its on rails .

Most important pictures were taken by the RCM@E Editor (Thanks David ) static and flying so it can at sometime be put into the mag for a feature plan , so will now get cracking on the drawing and get it sent in !!! cool

Just bumping my question - is there a plan for the earlier/smaller version already available?

We all look forward to seeing Gary get this model published! It's what we want to see in RCME - aerobatic models designed for electric power.

I think Mike T will find that the original Rizla shared some design or maybe just styling features with the Peter Miller Swamp Rat design. Swamp Rat was an RCME free plan some years ago so the plan for that should be available from Sarik. More details of the Swamp Rat are here - but it may not be the same as Rizla!

Thanks kc yes. I knew I'd seen it somewhere before!

It's a simple airframe, but what really makes it work is the unifying one-colour scheme, set off with some quirky styling cues like the spats, cowl cheeks and pointy spinner. It's amazing the way some subtle changes can alter the character of a plane.

Hi Mike

Yes changing the exterior can change the models looks !

The idea came from peter millers swamp rat but the RIZLA does only resemble it slightly as the wing cord and the rib construction are not the same . The fuss section is square but the nose and the construction of the fuss has been made for electric only and would not suite a petrol or glow . internal modifications for electric are considerable in this case wink

I always liked the Rizla. Did it, or its smaller version, ever get published as a plan?

Thanks

I must add that Swamp Rat was orginally inspired by a similar Gary VInten design so full circle.

Do I take it that neither the Rizla or the Swamp Rat are available as plans then?

Thanks

The Swamp Rat was a pullout (free) plan from RCME and should be available from Sarik now but doesn't seem to be listed  . i don't think the Rizla versions have been published -yet.

Thank you KC. I've identified the RCME issue with the Swamp Rat plan, should be able to get it on eBay. Cheers

I see that the only copy for sale on e-bay has a note saying plan has been replaced by an A3 copy!

Well Gary, as I'm an electric only flyer I'd prefer a Rizla but the original size as I prefer to stick to 3S or 4S.

My electric version of a Swamp Rat has 350 watts which is enough to be very aerobatic but only gives about 6 minute flights on a 3S 2200 lipo but that's enough for me. If you look back on the forum you will see Gary likes much more power than that!

We have not seen a plan for any of the Rizla versions so we don't know exactly how it differs from a Swamp Rat, but somewhere Gary said he slimmed the wing section down on his second ( rebuilt?) version.

It's worth noting that the Swamp Rat has a wing very similar to the Ohmen and the Alley Cat ( RCMW Feb 2014 / Peter Miller one ) which are both low wing planes. Ohmen has slightly bigger aileron chord though, and all wing tips are a bit different. But I think you could build a Swamp Rat wing from an Ohmen plan which is still available ( mag was in the shops last week but not this week). Maybe the larger ailerons would be better anyway. The same wing could probably be used for both if the top fairings were left off wing ( it's easier to cover a wing without the bulge of the fairing!)
