So, why has nobody done this one before? I've been all over the 'net without seeing any trace of this being modelled before.

Thing is, there's an original one still flying in the UK, and it's only 84 years old! Currently owned by Shipping and Airlines Ltd at Biggin Hill, they were kind enough to send me a pic of the only drawing they have, so I'll use that for the dimensions.

The Civilian Coupe - a two seat high-winger, blessed with a 100hp Genet radial, folding wings and exposed suspension. Going to have fun with those spoked wheels though......

I reckon 61" model at 1/7 scale, running on 3 or 4 cells.

There's a couple of lovely videos on YouTube;

It's been a while since I was able to do a scratch-built model, so I'm probably a little our of practice!

First step was to scale up the supplied 3-view onto some lining paper. So out came the crayons! The rib profiles were knocked out in Profili using an Eppler 205 aerofoil.

The wing skins are edge-joined from 1/16 sheet, using aliphatic glue.

Rather than build the wing on the board (and then skin it afterwards), it made sense to mark the structure onto the skins themselves.

I need to sort out the hardware to let the wings fold backwards, so some threaded ends from some 3mm turnbuckles will join the rear spar to the cabin structure, whilst I'm hoping to uses these SLEC hatch catches on the front spar. Simple, eh?

Nice subject Tim And glad to see you have the crayons out again.

I will be following this with interest, always good to see how you tackle design challenges.

Interesting choice Tim.. Another one to watch.

Are you *really* going to have folding wings? No reason why not if those struts are going to be working units..

Well Tim, if you're going to have fold back wings, you also need a fully working radial engine laugh

I can send you pictures of my 1/4 DH 60 if you need. This too has fully functional folding wings. There is a curved slot in the wing into which an aluminium bar slides in and out.

Tell me what shots you need photo

Cymaz - does your DH60 have the inverted Gypsy replica inline 4 or the upright Cirrus replica inline 4?

Or even possibly the 5 cylinder Genet radial engine?

This isn't that complicated! The underwing strut will support the wings, both in flight and when folded, so there's no need for curved bars. All will be revealed........wink

Tim, have you seen the article on folding wings for a DH 60 Moth written by Mike Sun in an early RC Scale Aircraft magazine? (actually 1984 ) Simple and practical ideas. I will find the article if you need it.

Yep, it really is a pretty plane - reminds me a little of the original flying car in some respects, minus the additional set of wheels of course! Just one request though - please leave out the carbon dashboard surround that seems somehow to have made its way onto the plane during the restoration. What on earth were they thinking on such a graceful old bird!

Fantastically original prototype, and really belongs in the class "if it looks good, it will fly "(Bill Lear).

What a little cracker! It's ideal as a scale model.

Sprung u/c, Tim? And will you be incorporating other scale features, like the beermat anti-rattle shim in the side glazing? emotion (And if so, which beermat? Made in Yorkshire, based in Kent - gotta be a toss-up between Timothy Taylor and Shepherd Neame!)

Thanks for all the input, gents! Lots of ideas for the future.

The last couple of days have been concerned with hacking out wing ribs. Yeah, I know.....thinking
