I have a broken reed valve in my RCGF 15CC Petrol engine. Can anyone advise what it is made off? It loos like a fiberglass material, thin and very springy! I gried a chainsaw repair shop this morning and he never saw one like it before. I would like to get the enginge going again asap. Thanks

Try a bike spares place, particularly one dealing with 2 stroke motocross type bikes; when I was kart racing, some of us used to use fibreglass reeds in our kart engines (more forgiving when they break, metal ones tended to wreck the bore if ingested). They are the same material as fibreglass PCBs, just a lot thinner.

Mick Reeves does some thin fibreglass sheet - Proskin - in various thicknesses...he might let you have a small sample if one of the thicknesses is suitable?

If you could measure it I have some in one of the sizes - we might be lucky?

Martin appreciate the reply its 2.5cm x 1.5cm unfortunately I don't have a micrometer to measue the thickness.

(That Thanks is to both Martin's)

Martin used the proskin and hi presto the engine started. I only run it for a few seconds as I was inside my "den" and the fumes are not good! As it is freezing here with a high wind Ill do a full run later.

Your help is really appreciated may all your landings be gentle.

Thanks - let's hope it's at least as durable as the original!
