I have been given a used Acer laptop. I need help to get it on line, and use my normal wi fi. Laptops are new to me, I have also been given an Ethernet cable ? I have also been told it is using Windows 7. Thanks

FB, you are a few clicks from getting online. To prepare, go to your modem box and make a note of the ID and the password, as the onscreen WiFi on the Acer will show yours and all your neighbours IDs, then you click on your ID, and put in the password, then you are online

Windows 10, is the current windows and will take hours to upgrade, and I am tempted to say, leave the laptop on Windows 7

DO NOT UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10.........

I made that mistake with an old windows 7 laptop and then had to spend 3 days rebuilding back to windows 7. It really isn't worth doing.

Win 10 is good if you have a modern system.Otherwise don't upgrade.

Just watch out for (and ignore) suggestions from Windows that you should upgrade to Windows 10.

Microsoft security essential is adequate. I run that as an antivirus with windows 7 and I never get any problems.
