Hi Guys, thought you might like a look at this?

Initially the long-haired one was not amused as it was supposed to be a new shelf for the kitchen, but I managed to make it up to her!

Timbo, your Glow Unit works a treat, but I did have to tweak the pots a bit!

Sorry guys but the video will have to wait a bit as I've got to go and dig some more black stuff out of the ground in Tunisia tomorrow! Back in a couple of weeks!

Hi timbo, Carthage is worth a visit if you like Roman ruins but the local beer ain't up to much! I'll be working in a place called Sfax on the south east coast. (was that your editorial contribution to the thread header?)

Towlie,

I'm thinking of attaching the new Hanger 9 Sukhoi to the radial when I get the time! I'd like a Stearman but transporting it would be a problem for me.

Hi Timbo,

Just restarted my browser, seems to work now.

Did you notice the pink exhaust coming from two of the cylinders, 3 and 5 (counting anticlockwise from the top) seems like they weren't firing? I did notice a problem with the switch I'd assigned to switch the glow on and off (top left on the tx) the LED's would come on but there was no power to the plugs. When I operated the "AUX2" switch the LED's came on, stayed on regardless of throttle position and powered up the plugs.

Next time I'm going to use a "Y" lead off the throttle channel and see what happens.

The LED will still light..even if the cell is not fully charged - which I expect it will need to be with up to 15A flowing through the unit.

Thats a fair comment Tim and something I'll check today but doesn't really answer my query. I'll need to give the neighbours a rest before I crank the engine up again but am still thinking there is a problem with my set-up.

I think you have probably just set the mixing wrong - I cant describe exactly how it should be done, because of differences between the different transmitters - especially Fuby / JR / Spekky. Best bet - just to confirm the unit itself is performing correctly is to simply use a Y lead on the throttle channel as you plan to do. If this is all fine, then it confirms it is the mixing / switch assignment. On models where I want switched AND proportional control via throttle stick position, I assign a switch ( gear is handy if not in use ) and mix it as master and throttle as slave, adjusting EPA etc to suit, so that throttle will still activate at tickover and cut off at mid - high settings, but ONLY if the master switch is in the "on" position.

That way, I can let the model sit and idle, and taxi up and down etc with the switch OFF, and bring it ON only in flight / landing approach as necessary....saves the glow cell some work

Why did you fit a seperate glow unit isolator switch ? remember also, that once receiver is switched off, the glow will always be automatically off too, so no danger of cell being flattened. A seperate isolator is NOT required.

The switch you saw me operate in the video was a standard batt/rx switch, nothing more.

As regard the mixing. As far as I know the DX7 and the JR X2720 are almost identical as far as the menu structure and set-up methods are concerned. I used "Mix 5" and slaved "AUX2" to the Throttle and had to use +100% on the "Offset" to make the glow turn on and off; the "Mix" switch was assigned.

Nice engine! It sounded like it was missing a bit at low rpms, to me, too. A bit like a motorbike engine with wet ht leads.

The sound is the only place an electric fails, they all just go eeeee. (but then so do Cox 049's!)

One thing I noticed - it shut the seagulls up!

It may be a while before I can have another go at it as we have typical summer weather up here in furryboot county!

I was going to make up a servo "Y" this morning but can't find the crimping tool.
