Hi all, bought a flash stick (8Gb) from Smiths to back up my pictures. Before removing stick from its plastic covering, I read that " operating systems supported " are windows 7,10. As my old ps still uses XP, will the stick work with this operating system. If not will I have to use older sticks that I have had for years ? cheers

Use it Flyboy

And if it asks you to " Format ", just click yes

Thanks both, but you are using old sticks on new OS, but I need to know if my new stick will work on old OS ( XP) Cheers. I am a tight OAP, and would like to know before destroying the packaging, and finding out it will not work,in case I cannot get my £10 back lol

Hello fly boy3,

I have in the past year bought some sticks and they all work perfectly on xp as mentioned above if it asks you to "format" , just click yes. By the way i use them to transfer files between my wn10 system and my xp system both ways no problems.

Xp is a great O/S, but just to make you aware, if you are not already, there is now no support from microsoft in the form of updates etc, you should be able to upgrade to W10 for free. you just need to check your pc will run it.

I had XP untill quite recently, and stuff just began to not work, so decided to change.

Just a thought , not compulsory.

Hi Flyboy.

You should have no problem at all, as mentioned above it may ask to format just say yes (thats providing you have no data on the stick otherwise you will loose it). Xp prefers to use FAT32 file storage system where as windows 7 to 10 prefers NTFS. But don't worry the computer will let you know if there is a problem.

Thanks Keith, took the plunge and found to be ok, with no problems, and as you say FAT 32, was seen when checking it out. Thanks.

Hi Dwain, thanks for the info. This pc is about 13 years old, and I did look into the possibility of upgrading, but it told me I needed more memory, and drivers needed to be upgrading. As you say, I am getting more and more odd problems with it, hence the idea of picture back up before it dies LoL. My dear wife says there is money available for new laptop soon. Thanks all.

I thought the free upgrade to Windows 10 finished last summer and was anyway for Win 7 and 8 not the even older systems like Vista and XP. If there is still a free upgrade legally then let me know too......

You may be right KC, about the time limit. i did up grade a while back on the pc with XP, I have Windows 10 proper, on the new laptop I bought 12 months ago. I bought a license off a guy on ebay, legit, not dodgy, for the pc.
