My wife bought me the plan and canopy at Christmasnd I got the laser cut parts a while ago and then forgot about it. I'd dearly love a moulded ASW20, but the budget doesn't allow for that. Here's my progress after a few days...

Check out this build. It's going to be my bible for this build.

My dad flew a real ASW20 many years ago, so I've been keen on one for a while. Took me ages to find a model with a sensible wing loading. The Hangar 9 one is loaded like a warbird!

I bought a sailplane kit from these people over 10 years ago - glad to see they're still going:

Even the bigger one comes within the budget:

Another option here but not ARTF, but really good flier and builds into something much more robust than the far east ARTFs.

BTW Simon pay attention to the fuselage at the leading edge of the fin, this will be the weak area, I would have taken the fuselage spars down to the rear of the fin. I bought a 2nd hand built up similar model (don't think it was the Mike Trew ASW20) and this is where it failed, the Tee tail puts a lot of stress onto this area.

Not a particularly modern wing section on the Trew designs I'm afraid - make sure you keep her moving yes

Frank, I did look at the Teakle kits, but the wing loading put me off. I'm reasonable at landing gliders, so not too worried about it being built like a tank.

Your point about the spar is a good one, and a mistake I'd realised I'd made yesterday. I may yet put some glass cloth reinforcement around the tail where the fuse meets the fin, as it's a weak area even on full size.

Thanks for the link to that website Mark - quite an interesting one to wander through, if only for the colour and decoration ideas.

Seconded about Mark's links. Those look great. I wish they had some idea of the AUW and wing area though.

You could always ballast it up wink, my 30 year old HP 18 (with glassed wings) flies lovely as does my friends ASW 22.

They were from Traplet, so you should be able to get them from Vortex Vacforms who bought the rights to their inventory.
