Hi Paul,

quick question, the ply tailplane supports, do they fit between the foam and the crutch or on the inside of the crutch. Have built the elevators, ruder and fin, not able to complete the tailplane as no balsa sheeting was supplied and am waiting for a delivery from Balsa Cabin. Started trimming supercharger moulding, finding it quite fiddly as no outline marking visible.

Your exhaust shield - nice touch.

Hi Graham

The ply tail supports go outside the crutch. The supercharger is fidley but you should be able to make out the join. I used some plastic off cuts to help brace the join. I also left some of the supercharger plastic at the base where it joins to the fuz to put in an insert of balsa sheet shaped to fit to steady it all up and give me a more solid area to join it to the fuz.

Graham a quick thought about the tail plane, I didn't glue it in position until the wing is built and in place, it doesn't have to be finished but I found it easier to align the tail with the wing. It only takes a degree or so of twist in the crutch to misalign them. I had to take a very small amount off one side of the tail plane support to get a good alignment. Wasn't a lot, about a millimetre but made a big difference.

Hi Paul, Thanks for that good suggestion, it’s what I was going to do next. I always check incidences with my gauge before gluing.

Have you painted Herman or his mate yet? What paints are suitable for the foam?

Anyone remember him?

Well after a busy morning of flying.....(flights of fancy more like!)

I have covered the tail all but a small bit near the wheel.

I hope you guys like a challenge, compound curves or what!

I had originally wanted to use carbon fibre for both push rods but the curves required for the rudder needed a little flexibility so used a small diameter snake.

Had a look at the wing and retracts. To fit them it seems that pretty well all of the foam needs to be removed from the well. Will the the undercarriage doors sit flush with the wing?.

Paul ,did you silver solder an arm onto the elevator joiner so that the linkage stays internal?

Hi Graham
The doors do fit just on top of the wing surface. Not in it. It looks okay. The tail has a strip of thin mild steel silver soldered on it .

Thanks Paul. Removed all foam out of 1 wheel well, retract fits ok. Going to now have a look at flaps and radiator then join wings. Your 109 certainly looking good.

Well... It's covered..laugh

I have also wired up the servo's as with most of my models using a 9 pin D type plug and socket so there is only the one connection to make when fitting the wing.

Just started to paint the pilot... not long now... fit the pilot some dials for the cockpit then just need some descent weather to paint hercheeky

That's a standard 9 pin D Sub connector (it was very common back when computers had serial ports).

I wondered why I was having problems sorting out the radiator and flap parts. The cnc sheet shows the flap and radiator main parts are incorrectly named. Can someone please confirm.
