Glued fuz sides on to wing then the motor former and motor.

Motor is an 1811 2900kv, 6amp esc that I took out of a converted Multiplex Fox. I ran that on 2s swinging a 6x4 producing around 40w. Might put a smaller prop on.

Then sheeted the underside

Next is to make the top hatch, It will be a single piece of balsa with a tongue of ply at front that will slot under and held down at the rear with earth magnets on a piece of ply. Also need to sort some servos.

Hello all,

The current status of my build is:

wp_20180106_22_26_42_pro.jpg

Probably not apparent in the picture is the fact my motor is short, ie, it does not clear the fuselage - prop cannot turn, of course. This means former F1 is either relocated to the front, kept in the assigned position in the plan and then cut the fuselage to suit or installing a spacer. Suggestions, anyone?

Thank you so much!

PP

If you've already glued in F1 then just make another former from lite ply and glue it in position to sort out the motor position...

Shaun.

Paulo if you look closely at all my pics you might see that the fuz at the front are different lengths. I made fuz sides as plan but then when installing motor I had the same problem that the prop would hit fuz sides. I thought about putting in another motor former but instead I just chopped off about 10mm from the side cheeks at either side of fuz.

I have the same problem. My prop will not clear the cheeks, so I'll just chop of the front of the cheeks. From what I understand, she's a bit nose heavy anyway.

I hope to shape the elevons tonight, so I can trial fit everything and see where the innards go.

Yes just make another F1 as I did.

You can see it in this picture.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

brfc7 ==>> it wasn't apparent as you say. A quite feasible solution, though.

Kevin ==>> I'll follow that route. The F1 i've got is already drilled as per the motor. It would be a shame to waste all that work, right? wink

Best regards,

PP

Hi PP. Have you thought of using M3 rod and nuts to extended the motor forwards ?

Nope, but thank you for the tip! As I said, I've got an F1 ready. I'll use it after trimming the excess height due to the curvature of the front fuselage where it will be glued on.

I did a mock up, to see where the bits and bops go. Surprised to see how far back the lipo needs to go to reach the CG.

Nice! And good to know where the battery may end up in the fuselage.

My battery is smack bang in the middle of mine. i had to move the former a bit further forward it now balances with the nose slightly down

Just got back from flying and after 3 flights mine is finally trimmed out. Zero wind allowing for some really smooth big manovers.

Mine also resides at the rear. gives a slightly nose down attitude at the indicated CofG. I think I may add a small amount of church roof to the rear.

Maybee a 1300 pack weighing a bit more might sort the CofG better.

I've sprayed a couple of coats of rattlecanvarnish on my fuse.

Now, glue fuse on wing and than cover, or cover and than glue? Decisions, decisions...

I glued and then covered.

Nice straight edge against the fuselage side, tack down each end and the middle and go from there.

Worked for me.

Went into the printers with the plan today and came out with an A0 copy , 141% giving a wingspan of 28 inches . If I built it that size what to use for power any ideas , just for comparison the Micro is now bigger than Mini on the plan . Bit more room to play with but not excessive might think about building it. Standard Mini Blitz brings a smile ever time it's flown great fun . Anyone else up for it ?

I have found that for every 10% increase in size you need to almost double the power. It is an exponential curve I think. Take a full size Spit, 24l motor. 1/6th scale, 30cc only. I have no intention of working out the maths on here though.
