Must get the night flying Bixler repaired from the previous session blush

are the goblins coming again

Of course they are.

Night flying wouldn't be night flying without the goblins.

It's the king goblin that's the problem!

John

With the car finally fixed (just don't mention Diesel Particulate Filter!) I will be there with a different collection of Depron lightweights - as long as the wind behaves itself!

I won't mention it, as long as you don't mention Power steering fluid cooling pipes Simon. Look forward to seeing you again. hot

The early Ford EcoTec diesels had a 'life time' DPF fitted.

The problem is that its actual life, about 100,000 miles, is well short of the life of the diesel engine!

Once blocked the DPF has to be be removed and specialist cleaned (success not guaranteed) or replaced. Neither option is particularly cheap and when you throw in the reliability (not!) of the ECU and the sensors which control everything you can have a car than is mechanically perfectly sound but requires replacement parts whose cost far exceed the value of the car! sad

The later DPFs have inbuilt 'cleaning cycles' so stand a sporting chance of matching the life of the engine.

I wouldn't bank on it Simon. My Skoda (1.6 diesel CR) went into limp mode at 5 years old and 38000 miles. I was then told by the garage I use for servicing - a local business, established for 40+ years in my village - that my DPF needed replacing despite the so called cleaning cycles. Replacement cost over £600. Once repaired, I promptly traded the Skoda in just 2 to 3 weeks prior to the emissions *thing* blowing up. I switched back to petrol after almost 25 years of diesel cars, and haven't regretted it. Now that I no longer work full time I've cut my annual mileage to half what it was. My next car could well be a hybrid or full electric........

Ha haa.

Even the King Goblin can't ground me for long.

Bixler lives to fly another day - or should that be another night?

Ready to go again next weekend. I'm looking forward to it.
