Covering is chrome profilm and photos really well.....

They are very strong little models...during early testing I cart wheeled both model without a scratch! the only significant damage was to the sabre nose when i dropped it nose first on to the workshop floor and put a nasty dent in the nose...top tip here for balsa models....if you soak the nose in a bucket of water for a hour or so and leave it to dry overnight, the wood swells and dent will disappear....then just get the hot iron on to the covering to smooth any creases.

The fan is an AEO unit ADH300... packs around 13oz of thrust and is a very light at around 55g. The blade balance is not great and they resonate badly at low to mid speeds, but hey at mid to high speed which is where they are operating at for this model, they are ok....

As I forgot to ask you today at about 12.30 pm have you posted a video of the pair flying on YouTube?

This one has caught my fancy already, I hope there will be some build photos added to the thread or at least in Tony's album. I am wonering how the aileron linkage will be routed.

I've already picked my paint scheme.

Hi Tony,

Looking forward to seeing these jets in the magazine.

I have two spare ADH300 64mm EDF units.

Do you think these could be shoehorned into the models without

too much modification or is 55mm the maximum size?

Thanks.

Tim, the 50mm Edf is shoehorned so no chance of getting a 64mm or a 55mm....the 50mm is cheap and works well.....or of course be my guest to enlarge the plan at the printers by 128% and the 64mm will fit.......the plan is a blank canvas so play around and have fun....that what the hobby is all about

Thanks Tony.

I will wait till the plans come out then decide to scale up or buy a 50mm fan unit.

Cheers.

Tim

hello Adrian,be warned the motor that tony recommended and used.....I thought I would order from HK in preparation for the build.it was only available from the global warehouse(china)...order came to £20 inc delivery which I thought was ok...anyway some 3 weeks later the order came and I had to pay an extra £11 to the postie....not such a bargain......hopefully it will be available in the UK warehouse...if not kulou ….

Ken, Are yes the import tax/vat and the hefty charge for the postie to deal with it....My fee was slightly less, but only because the goods were about ten quid!

Chris....ne...1... even more stung!

PS live and learn

My understanding Chris is that there are no charges up to £15. Any items totalling £15-£135 is charged VAT (plus handling fee) and over £135 you are charged VAT, Import Duty plus the handling fee (from non EU countries)

I was stung too crying

I have contacted HK and they have told me that the 50mm EDF unit mentioned will only be available from the global warehouse, so double the cost by the time you have paid postage, VAT and post office admin charge! Is there another source for a 50mm EDF that will do?

I've tried to download the build pictures as mentioned in the Fall Secial issue, but only get this error message:

Would that be because I am in Canada?mini-jet.jpg

I still can't see the build photos' on Tonys' website, but I can see them for his other planes, so I assume it's not because I'm in Canada.

Never mind the 'Mass Build', I saw these models in the SLEC tent at Cosford and I think that they will be massively popular, so may be a mass build in their own right! I have several 64mm fans/motors going spare so if the models were enlarged by 130% they would still end up with only a span of around 31in, even if the fuselages might look a little 'boxy' at this enlarged size. Fun to experiment yes.

I'm hooked, first EDF for me and always planned at some time to have a Sabre, it's such a terrific looking airframe .

Looking forward to the 2018 special, powertrain ordered.

You could try Banggood for the fan units - they have a selection from 30mm to 65mm

Would it be any good, some seem to suffer from vibration **LINK**

Theres an eleven blade job but it looks power hungry **LINK**

You might not get charged any duties through Bangood if you go for free postage.
