Arrived home today to find a 6’ box in the porch. I put on the delivery instructions “leave with neighbours “. I assume one of the neighbours brought it over.....if not, just as well we live in a quiet, secluded cul-de-sac.

Right, first things first, get the box open.....if anyone has seen AVE on YouTube then you know of his modus operandi in getting into new items. Not me, gently does it just in case anything is missed.

There is a lot of packing, I mean it, a lot..

Everything is held well down with tape and wrapped in foam.

So let’s dig further. Hardware pack. The tank will not be used. I’m putting in a 20cc petrol engine. There is no mention of petrol engines in the manual so I won’t trust the fuel bung, pipes etc.

There are some things that bug me on a £300 airframe. Cheap, nasty foam wheels. The bolts that are threaded into the control horns do not have securing nuts. These will all be changed to proper nuts and bolts.

Build quality and glue amounts look good.

There is no mention of this hatch in the rear of the fuselage,

There are some areas that are not really good.

The tail has no glue area whatsoever! I will need to glue a ply plate into the fuselage. Can’t have the elevators coming loose...the fit is not tight either.

I’m not sure how the engine is suppose to bolt in here with only two holes for the fixing mount? Some serious bracing and fuel proofing needed here. The undercarriage fixing plate is a good 1/4” ply. Glue quality is probably not is good as it could be...triangular bracing and epoxy will be added.

The top of the cowl does not come off. Exacerbating the difficulty of motor installation....we will see

Following! Remember, wheels need to be light for aerobatic aircraft which is why the provide these light weight ones.

C,

Looks a dead ringer for mine. My clubmate's has arrived too and I'm hoping to see him later to scrounge the manual. He has already hit the buffers with the quiet mounts, which are woefully short for a Laser 100. I ditched mine and bolted a U-shaped ply plate to the original sub-plate.

Looks like the forward mount fasteners may have been missed out, or are they to be added later when sidethrust is determined? Bit tight under there.

Agree re wheels, started again. Our strip gets wet and is shared with sheep (see below)!

Rear hatch is for elevator connections, single pushrod from the servo under the wing, splits into two via an internal horn and axle to two external horns.

Watching with interest. Will ask the Sheepharmer (for it is he) if he'll do a build log.

Not off to a good start. The manual is for a different plane. Cymaz, please see my PM.

I have the manual for a Surpass 90 surprise. So, will email PB tonight and see if they can sort it. Build on hold, until this is resolved.

I have exact same problem with instruction manual Cymaz. Anyone know what a 'Surpass 90' is? I thought it was an engine.

I shall email a request for correct info to ProBuild too.

Regarding the hatch underneath the tailplane, it would appear there are reinforcements/mountings for small flanged bearings to support a cross shaft and internal/external horns to connect two elevators to one servo similar to the example here.

Cheers Jeremy, might look into that. After the elevator pushrod shambles that my Wot4xl build went through, I try and stay clear of V rods to elevators.

Cymaz,

Are you sure a DLE will fit, particularly the RA? Are you immune to 87 dB levels at your site? I don’t think a 20RA will use less space then your Evo. The carb’s at the rear too. Shall I ask JH to try to post a couple of pics of mine, as I lose the will to live every time I attempt to upload pics via this tablet.

Oh pictures please !!

Hi Jo and Peter

thank you for the interest in the infinity 90. we tested this model with a dle 20 and 20ra and works great but a dle 30 is a little large to fit into the cowl.

we would advise the dle 20ra

Best Regards

I phoned PB today. The instructions marked Surpass 90....are correct! The addendums slipped in the pages are correct as well, so I’m told.

This weekend there won’t be a lot doing. I’ve got a club mate coming over Sunday and on Saturday Mrs C and I are off toThe Eden Project. There is a free locals pass this weekend for all living in PL30/31, it would be rude not to make the effort. And besides it’s the only time we can afford to go. Damn expensive for some poly tunnels in a hole in the ground if you ask me dont know

Cymaz,

Wasn’t the elevator linkage a standard part set supplied by Probuild?

The point where the exhaust pipe exits the back of the u/c plate area is totally different shape. Couldn’t see c of g, suggested throws etc. We are convening a Laser/ASP tank fitting exercise tomorrow morning as there are strong winds here oop North.

There was a dowel rod for the elevator....no sign of the crank so that's why I got one. I have the page with CG and throws. I will post this soon for you. When I rang I double checked about these and where assured that the numbers was correct

Hi Cymaz

Is this the model? If so looks like really good value compared with the price of many other F3As

That’s the one ☝️. The rear hatch will be useful. Going to start on the plane and wings when I’m home
