I've got a couple of Rx that need the aerials replacing but I'm not sure what wire to use. Is the multistrand you find in telephone extension cable okay or do I need something else?

The wire in the twenty point plug lead used on the video recorders of old is perfect for receivers.

It also follows that the length of the replacement aerial should be same as the original. Shortening could lead to a loss of range.........

I have used multi strand telephone cable in the past, does the job.
