OS MAX 46 FX - what are they like?

I've just been given a used OS MAX 46 FX, don't know how old but it looks pretty clean and feels nice and bouncy turning over by hand. What are they like?

Not used the FX series.

I have run the predecessor SF in 40 and 60 size quite a bit. Very nice engines. Still have some, although currently not in use.

I'm sure someone will mention the OS cylinder peeling problem soon. Never experienced it myself.

Powerful engines, but they suffered from the coating on the liner 'de-laminating'.

Worth pulling it apart to check.

Thx. I'll check the plug and run it up on the bench. If it struggles I'll open it up for a look-see. Assume Just Engines can supply liner if needed..?

You can use the ASP piston and liner in those i believe. They tend to last longer than the supposedly better quality os ones.

Personally, if it looks clean and you can't see an obvious problem through the exhaust port, i'd run it first and only take apart if there's an actual problem.

In general I would inspect first because if there is a problem you risk doing more damage.

That said, if the liner and piston are damaged now they are already scrap so i guess it makes little difference in this case
