Hi all,i enjoyed the hurricane build so much,i don't want to miss this-one !

Looks like a colourful scheme, Dirk.

Phil Cooke has already chosen the Yugoslavian yellow and blue livery. It would be great if all the models were in different colours, there are certainly many to choose from.

Sabres were delivered to 28 countries and they were also flown by many different aerobatic teams!

Finally got the magister on the shelf (not too far away) and pinned the wing building jig down on the bench, sorted out the wing ribs , spars and made some 1.5 mm wing skins.

Can someone tell me why the middle support ribs R1a are 1.5 mm lower than they should be ???

You can see the problem in the foto at Martin's gamma build at 26/07/2019 14.59.13

Hi Dirk,

Good spot. It is a minor cutting error.

I would like to say it is there for a reason - but it is not.

Someone else added some 1.5mm balsa to the top of the support rib!

Apologies.

Hi Dirk, great to see your Sabre started. Ref the R1 to R2 step, I glued a piece of waste wing skin sheet over the combined R1A jig root location, took up the space no problem.

Hello sabre-ists,

While building the wing ,i noticed that the ply wing brace in front of the ribs is captured between the wing skins.(planwise)

I think this is a drawing error or am i seeing this wrong ?I'm going to add this brace after the false leading edge , leading edge and skins are sanded. It may be hard to sand the ply next to the soft balsa but i'm going this way.

Any thoughts ?

Dirk,

The plate is added to the front after skinning the wing.

Martin.

If you cover the balsa with masking tape it will stop the excessive sanding problem, perhaps use a Proxxon type shoe horn sander for the ply - is a lot quicker.

20191122_220014.jpgFinally found some time between building to get this blog going.

I started the sabre with the fuse up to the point of joining the two halves, this because i'm not sure yet if i'm doing speed brakes or not.The planking is done with 6mm planks and green zap(cyano). The seems are glued after with red zap.20191111_223858.jpg

While the fuse is resting,i made up the skins for the wings. To get a perfect fit of the balsa planks i overlap them 0.5 cm.

Then cut both planks with one cut with a long ruler 0.25cm from the side of the upper plank20191109_220224.jpg

If all went well ,the seems should be near perfect and glueing them with cyano is no problem and speeds up things

First tape the planks together20191109_222941 (1).jpg20191109_222941 (1).jpg
