So how would any proposed legislation on UASs have prevented this? It seems to me that all the legislation will do is prevent sensible model flyers from flying model aircraft and drones sensibly, while charging some of them £16.50 for doing so.

The Airprox board have published the report for the incident on the 28th April 5nm east of Gatwick.

"The A320 pilot reports in the final stages of an ILS approach to RW26 at Gatwick when he saw a dark coloured drone ahead. Avoiding action of a 5-8° bank to the right was taken."

Assuming that what the pilot saw was an unmanned aircraft, we have two cases:

1) The UA is privately built by somebody who is into FPV or photography, knows the law and chooses to ignore it. In this case regulation will have no impact.

2) The UA is an RTF operated by somebody who doesn't know the law. In this case limiting the UA to 400ft AGL out of the box, making them register and requiring them to enter their number into the controller before they can use it may reduce the number of such incidents.

Whatever amount of laws and regulations are put in place, it won't make an ounce of difference.

Laws only affect the law-abiding. . . . The rest of the population couldn't (won't) give a damn.

where I live, north east there are some nice tourist spots on our doorstep...………… Saturday I was at one of them with probably100's of others around lunch time, lots of activities going on and above our heads was a drone....and someone nearby with his FPV head unit on...…. he proceeded to overfly all and sundry, I was thinking that if it came down it was guaranteed to hit someone or thing. After 1/2 an hour he landed and retreated to his car.....so in theory in a couple of months he would be liable to a canny fine or would he still be ignored? also he was in controlled airspace....so to my mind he was def breaking a few existing rules and regs…...

The law in October will be the same as it is today.
