Has anyone experience in making Oracover a matt finish ? I am building a Sunderland, trying to keep the weight down so thinking of doing the white bits in oracover putting some pencil detail on then matt varnish ! I intend to flat the oracover and spray matt varnish anyone done it ? I figure it will be lighter than glass and resin. It is electric so no fuel to worry about !

Advice appreciated.

Paul.

Balsa, or foam Paul?

As when adding weight, e.g. Paint or varnish, the lads may have other ideas

E.g. I sprayed a foamy D day green, with black and white wing stripes and it has never flown since.

I meant to say that it is so heavy now that it has to be flown so fast, it is not flying as it did

The grey 3M Scotch-Brite Hand Pads work well for flattening film coverings & there is no need for additional finishing. Widely available via Amazon, EBay etc.

I built the same model (twice but that's another story) and covered it in Solarfilm. I then used a Scotchbrite pad to take the gloss off and then drew panel lines on with pencil, exactly as your suggesting. It worked a treat. The dirt and rust on here is pastel sticks, then a matt varnish over the top to seal it.
