I have a Powercraft Mini Drill PBM-40F. I came to use it today, it was broken.

I checked the fuse, the brushes, the continuity of the supply lead, which all seemed OK. I took the body apart, that is one half, the motor looks fine, no small of shellac. Again a continuity check on the windings seem to indicate all is well.

The one thing left is a small power board. I have no idea of how to check this, and wondered if any one knows where spares for this can be purchased.

I ended up using my Dremel with a cutting disc to do the job.

It is much easier to use a flexible drive with a cutting disc on, or a abrasive wheel on it. On that basis i want to try and get the Powercraft running again.

My Makita cordless drill recently gave up.

Gearbox fine, motor fine, trigger (speed control) - not ok.

Price of replacement trigger, approx 2/3 cost of new unit.

I bought an entire new unit for the same cost, as soon as I found a NOS on Ebay.

I bought a Proxxon on a deal once and the speed control went napoo after just three weeks! I just took it out and wired the thing direct...flat out. Been doing flat out ever since and I mill brass with a dental burr in the chuck and have been for over thirty years! Still going strong, as is its transformer.

I have undertaken a second examination, with the hope of finding the fault. I have now identified that the on off switch is broken.

I cannot find the original switch for sale, the manufacturer, yes, the model, no.

I have have ordered a switch that appears pretty much identical, time will tell.

Of course now I can see it is coming from China, it could take months before it gets here.

I ordered a second switch, there is a reason, it is my incompetence.

It arrived today from a UK company, Farnall.

The switch has been fitted and the drill is back in action. I always have this concern that there is something else, that I have missed. In this case there was not.
