I think this may have been raised before but I can't find the thread.

Not long after buying my DX6, maybe three years ago now I replaced the dry AA cells with the Spektrum rechargeable pack. When not in use the battery has always lost charge over a relatively short period, say a week if DX6 left unused. It's not a major problem but just puzzled as to why this happens. A fellow club member with a DX8 with same battery claims it retains it's charge over a month or so with very little loss. Is my battery/DX6 faulty, battery tired or is this the norm.

I have the same problem with my 2nd generation DX6 with the rechargable pack. It seemed to last longer with the regular AA's.

The way to check is to charge the pack and then physically disconnect it from the DX6 to see if it holds the charge any better.

If it does then there is something in the DX6 drawing a small current.

If it still discharges just the same then it is a characteristic of that pack.

Usually Duracell dry cells will last the season

Over those few dry days without gales in the UK

A common problem with this Spektrum battery pack is it self discharges (something to do with its charging circuitry). I replaced it with a 4 Max Lipo pack. The Tx now holds its charge for months - discharge problem solved!

Mine does that as well. Find it goes flat after a while and no reason for the drain. Replaced with a NImh AA pack and seems ok, though took the battery out of the case which is the same that used in the DX9 and so on, and use it as a spare. Think the circuitry has a drain in it.

A set of 4 AA size Vapex low discharge cells from The Component Shop solved the problem for 3.90. Lasts many months for me in a DX6i

The original DX6 (which wasn't sold for long) was DSM.

There are two variations on the modern DX6. The G2 has a single antenna and the G3 (the current model) has two.

I wonder why everyone has this obsession to "upgrade".

I've used exclusively Spektrum for the last 8 years, mostly DX6i and DX6.
Before every flying session, I wall charge the 4 eneloop batteries (only about half an hour because they're never flat from the previous session).
After many flying hours and many sessions of 2 to 3 hours continuous flying, I've never seen less than 5V on the Tx display and I've never had the slightest problem, so why "upgrade" anything?
OK, I replace the 4 eneloops every couple of years, but I've never seen any sign of weakening.

In the light of my (limited) experience, and reading the posts above, the term "upgrade" seems rather academic and optimistic, and in many cases, is just resulting in self-inflicted problems.

Am I missing something?
