But only legal users would register much like the drone laws!

I'm thinking knee-jerk on both counts.

Hand guns were banned but gun crime has increased. Laws that cannot be enforced are pointless.

Drones can still be bought and used by idiots, Guns can still be obtained and used by gang members, Laser pointers are freely available for any idiot to use, I can not think of an answer to these problems, can you ?.

yes

Either that, or solitary confinement with a tv showing constant "reality TV" shows 24 hours a day with no off switch.

The sort of person who is resonsible for these crimes would find such programs highly interesting and educational.

The handgun ban has been successful in it's objective. It was never directed at illegally held weapons.

What evidence do you have that gun crime has increased & over what period compared with when ?

May I assume that you would be willing to flick the switch to actually kill someone?

And what if the justice system gets it wrong for the umpteenth time?

Only uncivilised countries now execute their citizens.

PatMc, You only have to look up government gun crime figures to see that it is on the increase in recent years, mostly handgun use in the more densely populated areas.

Only a small percentage of crime has ever involved legal licenced weapons. The handgun ban was a waist of taxpayers money.

It was also a deeply unfair impingement on the national shooting teams for various disciplines.

Flip side of the coin... At least we have some moral superiority over the Yanks! laugh

You & Mowerman are making the claim, it's up to you, not me, to provide the reference source, "government gun crime figures" is too vague. In any case as I stated in my previous post the handgun ban was never directed at illegally held weapons.

Quote : "Only a small percentage of crime has ever involved legal licenced weapons." (Again no reference to source of claim) But what you refer to as "small percentage" includes 3 mass murders & 1 attempted mass murder. Links to references : Hungerford ; Monkseaton ; Dunblane ; Cumbria . Note Hungerford & Dunblane both included the use of legally held handguns.

There was a Government call for evidence on the subject of laser pointers a couple of years ago. The resulting report is here. One result is a 'lasers are not toys' campaign.
