To add a bit more realism to the instruments try adding a drop of Gorilla Glue (white) to the face of the dials, it dries clear and adds ‘glazing’. Of course any other glue would be ok as long as it dries clear.

Your kits are lovely Richard, pity you only do warbirds I would've bought one but I'm a long way from going solo so a long way from one of these. If you ever make a trainer kit I'll have one. smiley

Richard, great news on you seeing the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel with getting the P51 kits sorted, i am in no panic for mine , i have a B.T. Hurricane and a Duncan Hutson Chippmunk to finish before starting the P51. If the kit arrives too soon it will be to much of a temptation to start it, this is what happened to the chippy ,i just looked at the Hurricane plan and before i realised i had the tailplane , elevators , rudder and fin built so, December or even Jan. is O.K with me , if that is O.k, with you, regards geoff.

I shall say this only once .(Allo Allo - LeClare )

The Box lid label on all versions shows a P51D . The type inside the box is indicated by a letter on the end .

D B or M . All versions carry both sets of rear formers as it was simpler to cut like that . But the letters will indicate the canopy included .

The good thing is that if you change your mind , you could ask for an alternative canopy to be sent out as you have all the other bits .

You will also get an A4 paper template to remove the lower wing skin where the retracts go through .

I didn't give Paul one, or a plan because I like to make things challenging . Having said that , I think he has already had a bit of challenge and I may well relent .

Glynn

Just out of interest, do you have any RAF markings in your system. The Mustang was, after all, produced to an RAF specification in 1940. The USAAF had no interest in the Mustang until the RAF had operated it and found the Allison engine was the weak point in the package. Once RR had fitted the Merlin to the Mustang it was transformed and that was when the USAAF took an interest. We should also note that the RAF provided the initial long range fighter escort for the B17s with P51Bs in September 1943 as the USAAF did not have any operational Mustang squadrons at the time.

Good man. I'm building a TopFlite P51D with the markings of 303 Sqn. Actually they got the P51K. The Dallas built version of the D model as the C was the Dallas version of the B!

Mine is going to be a 65 Squadron Mustang III based in Peterhead early 1945, supporting the Beaufighters and Mosquitos of the Banff Strike Wing operations against Norway. I love the look of the Mustang III with the blown Malcolm hood and already have a few USAAF P-51B and P-51D models.

I am working through the list and so some people will be getting their kits in the next day or so . I am looking forward to you all getting stuck in and seeing a huge variety of specs .

I have to say (and Ive said this before ) , we really are a nice bunch of chaps ! I really do think that if we were all in the same place we would have a great time , since we all seem to think along the same lines .

I think the filter here is humour . everyone is very easy going and I think we all know that what ever problem one of us bumps into , we will all help to work round it . It certainly reminds me of how many of you, have built my stuff and contributed yourselves, by chatting to me on the phone or via email . Its definitely a two way thing for me .

The rest of the world looks pretty miserable at the moment , so lets immerse ourselves in the wonderful world of Balsa sniffing , coffee , cake and radio 4 , with a drop of the old "gold watch" at 9pm to thin the blood. Wonderful .

Richard - by your efforts you are certainly helping folks get through these trying times and I think you are quite right, aeromodellers are a great bunch. Things are not great out there on a number of fronts but we can hopefully escape from some of that by immersing ourselves in those nice things of which you speak.

Before even getting my kit, you email prompted me to look back over my choices of which aeroplane to model and as a result read, and reread, some marvellous stories and information, some of which I hadn't seen before - it also prompted me to look back over some pictures and posts of other models. For me that's what a large part of modelling of warbirds is about - the research and the stories.

Thanks again for this marvellous thread and for all the fun to come. .

I had a lovely chat to Richard on Sunday and only curtailed it to chat to my elderly parents who I was visiting for perhaps the last time in a month (unless I can get over on Wednesday afternoon for a bit).

Reading all these comments about exactly which Mustang your model will be based on and how you all seem to know so so much about the intricate details of that model, I find myself feeling distinctly amateur! I have no clue about the Mustang apart from what it looks like and that a few of them had a big old sharks mouth at the front! I guess lots of warbirds did, so that's moot, even!

I think I am going to have to get hold of some decent historic reading to get a good idea about what I'm going to try to emulate. At least I am fairly comfortable knowing that most of that stuff is in the finishing detail and I won't have to worry about it for some time!

Looking forward to receiving my package in the post in the next few days. Hopefully it will arrive in a morning when my wife will be at work and I won't have to get into the whole "How much did that cost?!" debacle...

Cheers all

Dave

Nooooo don't chat to him...... that's how Glynn and I started.

Now he sends the boys round twice a week to check up on us...

Just stay with explaining to the Mrs.... it's so less violent.....
