Be patient Martian and get on with the Cat, I am itching to start on mine but I am going to finish the Seafury first . Progress is slow as I can't shake off this head cold I have had for over a week

Well being as most of you dont seem to have got beyond the label ........

Maybe I should just send out the labels . Hey ! I could do a range larger than Airfix in a month .

Anyway , in the meantime , I have been looking for other interesting colour schemes and realised that I had missed one right under my nose . That being based at what we call Andrews field , which was also known as Great Saling.

I often drop in there for a coffee and bacon sandwich when out on my motorbike . It is in north Essex, about 10miles east of Stansted Airport . It was the home to the Polish squadron No316 . Who, in typical fashion , got up to all sorts of mischief . In 1945 , feeling that they were on the home run , they painted red stripes on all of the spinners , which for me . makes them a very interesting choice . I am going to persuade Glynn to do the decals , as I'm sure a few of the Malcolm hood Mustang builders will find this too tempting to ignore .

What do we think chaps ?316 mustang.jpg

That's a great scheme Richard and would go a long way to remembering the brave and skillful Polish pilots who made such a difference to the outcome of the B of B. It is one of the enduring tragedies of WW2 that the ally on whose behalf the UK declared war was abandoned to Soviet rule at the end due to the lack of foresight on the part, principally, of the US. By the end of the war Britain was no longer a superpower and was broke so our ally was left to her fate.

Once everyone has built their Mustangs, it would be a fitting tribute to our old ally to have a section on Polish RAF Squadron aircraft. Mine will be of a Mustang IV of 303 Sqn in the markings of the then CO.

Great pictures Ron .

Couldnt agree more Peter . I think Churchill felt thoroughly ashamed of the Polish lads treatment at the end , but we were no longer driving the bus . Nevertheless , some of those lads were put in prison when they got back to their own country . Absolute disgrace . Up to us to get some of these colourful characters up and running next season so that we can explain to the less educated what it was all about .

Spent many an hour at Andrews field back in the day, was somewhat shocked to see all the industrial there a few years ago but it had to happen I guess.

On the subject of Polish pilots Lanny Lanowski is not widely known, a Polish colleague who was very much into WW2 aviation and around the time the film 303 came out which he thought was pretty poor had not heard of him, I and many other visitors to the Fighter Meet shows at North Weald in the early 80’s were lucky enough to meet this guy who had an R/C model, built as static, of a P47 on top of his beige mini metro, he had various memorabilia on a table in front of him, initially you thought he was selling stuff off but no it was far better than that, he was telling of his flying exploits in Poland, UK and finally the US Airforce, this was my first of many encounters and most pleasurable audiences with Witold ‘Lanny’ Lanowski.

His son Krys keeps a Facebook page to honour his Father and he does talks on the subject and what a subject!

Lanny’s book ‘Out in Front’ is a must read for those that thrive on wartime pilot biographies like I do.

I have a rule that I won't start a build until I have finished the one that I am working on otherwise I fear that I would never get anything finished.

I am nearing the end of my current Hawk build and the Mustang has jumped the queue and will be up next.

There are different sizes and shapes of drop tanks Gilly but they are pretty easy to carve from foam by tracing the shape on the side and then top then just sand to shape. Can be glassed to prevent damage as well

Getting hold of motors is a bit of a drag at the moment as the usual supplies seem to have dried up .

The FMS Predator motor 580K 4250 is ideal , but they dont come with a motor mount .

The hole spacing is different on pretty much every motor , so you could buy five on the internet and still not find a winner .

To solve that problem I have pestered the machine shop to do a small batch .

I have some here and will send them out post free ,including the mounting screws for £6 .

At least it is an option to get these models flying .

Richard , could you save one of your motor mounts for me please, i have a Predator motor on order from Wheelspin at the moment. Could you also send me a set of retracts, let me know how much and I send a cheque to cover, oh by the way the prop blade packers arrived recently, as usual above and beyond service, regards Geoff.

Airtek do a 4250 600kv of which I’ve used 3 and it is a good motor. Might be suitable and great company to deal with.
