Doesn't seem to be a lot of interest Chris judging by the response, perhaps everyone is already busily building during the lockdown - or alternatively don't have any balsa left. crying

Why don't you make some model choice suggestions of your own Chris? In past years simple models seem most popular (Tucano, Webbit, Pushy Cat). Not a 'mass build' but the Bowman Spateman seems to have attracted a lot of building (and rebuilding), here. Something a bit different can often generate a bit of interest too. You made a good suggested a year or so ago with the Peter Russell '362 Delta', it was a free plan in the May 2017 RCM&E. yes

Or Peter Russell's Striker. A fabulous flyer. Flew in in the '70s.

There was some interest a few weeks ago about resurrecting the Small Model Association and holding a fly-in at Buckminster - see link here.

How about making the Mass Build for anything that fits within the criteria for a small model?

The most successful MB years have involved a single design which has caught peoples imagination. A design where people can compare notes and pool ideas to overcome common problems. This is why the PSS mass builds have been well supported. Each design has it's own challenges and techniques. People follow the builds online and learn from each other, as there is often more than one way of skinning a cat. (Am I allowd to say that on here?!)

The availability of CNC parts and a canopy is another inducement for people to join in, especially if those parts are made available at a promotional price.

I personally don't think 'any small mode you fancy' will really get the ball rolling and be well supported - but I could be wrong.

I have ot been involved in any previous mas build. I am interested to join in and I like P Bowlan's idea of a single design done by everyone..

Choosing the model now might be OK but if it's a balsa model then the start time should allow for balsa to be back in stock.

Or choose a design made from depron or some other foam etc.

What about any model from the Keil Kraft, Mercury models. Lots of interesting models to chose from.

'Start Time'. Without a crystal ball there isn't any way of knowing when regular supplies of balsa will arrive in the shops and besides, modellers often have their own stash of balsa even if those personal supplies are dwindling. Some modellers choose to build in depron anyway although supplies are drying up for that too.

Sarik Hobbies are saying that they still have balsa for their short kits so I would suggest that if a model choice could be decided upon picking a resent design where a short kit is available is the way to go if balsa is a problem. Peters Miller's models are popular for good reason so I would suggest his Rans Chaos from October' RCM&E as most forumites will have the plan. If not, the plan, CNC parts (for those squimish about cutting ribs for a tapered wing) or a complete kit are available from Sarik Hobbies. I expect there are one or two already under construction so that could potentially swell the numbers of Mass Builders. Personally I think a set 'start date' is irrelevant.

At 54in span the Chaos is a good size, a fairly simple build, flies well and no doubt someone will build an ic conversion - someone else will build one from depron. Maybe? QED.

PS. I thought that I should mention that Sarik Hobbies are currently having a 'Cyber Monday' promotion where, if you enter FREEPOST into the box at checkout, you get free postage on your CNC parts or Short kit order with them. Better be quick as the promotion ends on the 6th Dec. (I have no commercial or any other connection with Sarik by the way)

I think that's an excellent idea - which has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact I already have the Sarik part kit sitting ready to start once I've finished my Li'l Cub
