Can I do without it?

I've never owned a four stroke but was lucky enough to get one from the in-laws to go with a YT P-51D bought by my wife for my 40th. Amongst the many issues I've had putting it together is getting a mount to fit. I've got an RCV 130cd but the T-bar mounts supplied with the kit are too short. I've acquired a traditional mount on ebay but to get the prop driver the correct distance from the firewall I'd have to remove the choke. So, is this likely to be a problem?

No problem Gavin. I have several 4 strokes with no choke. If you have trouble priming the engine just put you finger over the exhaust and the exhaust pressure will drive fuel into the carburetor as you turn the engine over.

Thanks Bruce. I thought so, but always good to get a second opinion.

4 strokes are generally much more efficient at pulling fuel through than 2 strokes....they "suck" much better....

Personally I always remove the choke flap anyway.....I've never used them!!

The only people using the choke are those hand starting the engine.  If you use a starter, it is not needed nor necessary.  I take all mine off and put them away in the engine boxes.

Cheers,

Chip

Yo can still hand start even with no choke. Just needs some work to get it primed first.

I do the same as suggested above, put your finger over the exhaust outlet and turn it over by hand a few times....
