Good lad that he is, Dusty sent me this unit last week as I wished to try a more powerful fan unit in the newly acquired HK F18A Hornet ( see this thread here )
Comparisons with the stock EDF on the same ESC and 3s battery are as follows.
Stock unit  25A  11.3V   283 Watts.
Cyclone     34A  11.1V   370 Watts.
Thats an increase of around  30%+ but obviously at higher battery drain.
I will be testing it on 4s tomorrow.

4s results as taken from the eagle tree logger.

700+ watts ! - I think this may be classed as a tad overkill for a 22oz foamy
Obviously with the heavier fan and a larger battery the weight will be higher, but even if it comes out at say...30 oz, thats still over 350 watts per pound.

I will try her first on the 3s pack

It's a shame you can't get the thrust figures to go with those power measurements. Would be interesting to see how much more thrust you get for all that extra power?

I know, - when I have the time and inclination ( especially the latter ) I really must get around to modifying my thrust stand to be able to fit different fans other than my fav Wemotecs, and even complete models perhaps.

I suspect with EDF models, it is the model that needs to be tested. The reason being that  the duct losses seem to be ta big issue and above all, it is the trust from the rear end that makes it move
Then again it is very useful to know the potential of the fan assembly, so as to be able to ascertain how efficient the duct is.

Well yes and no. If the same conditions exist for all thrust stand based measurements, in or out of the model, this is perfectly acceptable to assess the difference between different setups. IYSWIM

Sorry Tim I posted a comment on the other thread and then this come up! Ok ya its gonna be heavier model AUW but will fly better in the wind too. I loved the Jpower AMX on stock setup for example but this EDF really made it come alive and flew much better in wind obviously with the heavier weight. Assuming you are bit of a Cowboy and like things faster in life then the current drain for a "sneaky" fast flight only lasting 4-5mins is no problem, obvioulsy one has a throttle and can squeeze 6-7 mins. One thing on the plus side is thes fan will sound 10x better than a plastic fan too! Have you fitted a thrust tube and tested yet? Would be interesting to see the static thrust, one would be surprised I reckon!

700 watts will be fine, thats what the throttle stick is for! In all seriousness, my 3900kv version would probably suit better. But since you have what you have, unleash the watts!!

I swapped the stock fan in my Graupner (SAPAC) Typhoon for a 3900kV Red Cyclone last year.  Installed figures I got were 575W steady state on Overlander 25C 2600 4S with 870g static thrust. I know we are comparing apples with pears, but gives a feel for the difference in the 2 winds.  I actually bought 2 4300kV reds out here in Singapore on Wednesday to go in a winter project so I'm pleased to see Tim's test results.
