I've been reading the article in the June issue and it mentions some build photos. Can someone point me in the direction as to where they are?

Here you go Doug. If you click on the big blue 'mouse' icon on the home page then you go here where all the pic links are, the Mossie is the bottom one.

Thanks guys,
cylinders and air tank ordered.
Thought about the cnc kit but decided that would take the 'fun' out of building from a plan
will need to get a canopy tho.

Hi again.
Well the build is going well so far, about to start skinning.
However looking at where the 2 lipo batteris are suposed to fit in the front of of the fusalage,
has anyone found any 3 cell batteries that will fit in the space?

Hi Guys,

I'm having a few 'teething' problems with the Mossie build - frankly down to my inexperience, I'm beginning to wonder if I've bitten off more than I can chew!.

Anyway, firstly - does anyone know where I might be able to find a good tutorial about how to sheet and/or plank fuselage and wing surfaces? I've looked around different forums but not really found anything with step-by-step photos (or videos).

Secondly the plans show the fin/rudder and stabiliser/elevator with lots of regular shapes superimposed on them. Are these lightening holes? I've found one build photo of the fin and stabiliser but can't quite make out any detail.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Patt

Hi Andy.
So far i have
2 air actuators 10mm hy 011-13101
1 air operated switch 3 way hy 011-00601
1 100cc air cylinder hy 011-02501
1 air refil valve (had to get this from local model shop as GC seemed to be out of stock).
some 3x1.7 air retract pipe hy 001-01501

This is my 1st time useing air retracts so i am hopeing i got it right
I meant to take photos of the build as it progressed but never got around to it and i think i am too far into the build now to be any use.Fusalage is allready covered.

I am haveing trouble finding a 3S 1350mah lipo that will fit in the space suggested on the plans (62mm x 20mm), nearest i have found is 67mm length. Has anyone found such a battery otherwise i will need to take drastic action and cut off the front of my fusalage between formers 1 and 2 in order to extend the fus by about 10mm.

Martin.

Hows the build going on this?
As a side note,I was looking around the web and found an American mag that published plans for a Mossie, designed by Rob Caso in December 2007.Does anyone know if these are the same plans? Just wondered as if it was there are probably other build blogs.

From R Caso - Mosquito questions. I will try to address some of the above questions

Batteries - I am using (2) 1350 mAh 3s lipo Thunder Powers - Hobby Lobby sells them and they JUST fit. Make sure that the nose is hogged out enough - it's safe to elim structure that was installed during the build as there is little stress on the nose. Just leave about 1/8-3/16 thickness. 1000mAh will also work but less nose weight - and you need it. I do know that the 1000's will work as I power all my 1lb warbirds with them w/o problem. The Mosquito is simply (2) one lb warbirds bolted together. I get a good 10-12 mins on the 1350s though.

Empennage - A simple stick framework can be substituted for all the emp parts. You can also use sheet stock for the movable surfaces. For the fixed, use 1/8 stock and a harder pc for the "spar" that runs the length and then sand down to airfoil shape and sheet with 1/32. I did a honeycomb on my laser for the new design since it supports the thin sheet better. Don't omit the 90 deg 1/8 sq stiffener at ea end as this reduces warp.

Nacelles - I have molds for the nacelles that are very nice but it takes me forever to make them - about 3.5 hrs since I have to make (2) from a single set of molds. They are the exact parts that are on my model in the mag. I charge $60 pl shipping for the pair but even at that I hate doing them due to the time and materials req'd. Begging is required.

2007 Flying Models Mossie - yes this was my simple orig design ref'd in the June RCME article. I have an elec copy if anyone wants it - email me at rcaso916_aol.com. An amazing model and the best flyer I have ever flown - which is why I did the complex model.

Retracts - doesnt anyone believe that my wood LG works? Come on guys - it really does and I would not have gone public with it if it didn't. Other than the good idea of using elec retrax - which were not available until recently - use the equip that is noted on the plans: the EV2U solenoid air switch and the gear door cyls. It's all in the plans. This stuff works and it fits in the model.

Sheeting/planking. First of all - don't plank - Contest 1/16 sheet works fine. I did an article on finishing small models - email for it! It's not that hard to do on this model as I put in a ton of stringers to glue small sections to.

From "A Bridge Too Far"......."Was there anything else?"
