Hi Everyone,

OK, we seem to have sufficient interest to run this project so we need to get organised!

This thread is for those that wish to select their own model. (there is a parallel thread for those that wish to do a common choice of model here). When we come to the build itself we will not separate the threads like this - but for this bit it is easier if will deal with it as two separate groups.

From the voting we know that there are 28+ of you - so what we need now is for you to post your confirmation of intent to take part and to nominate the model you intend to build if you can - like me you may not have decided yet! If you do give a model please try to include a few links to details so we can all see what its like!

Please no general chat on this thread - we need to keep track of numbers and model choices. General chat on the vintage mass build can still go here

Note this is not any form of a committment - all your saying at this stage is that it is your intention to take part.

Off we go...

I'm in. Mercury Matador (Ben Buckle plan) for sentimental reasons. I'm considering going smaller than standard though. Just because we can these days.
The original plan shows a huge receiver, so delicate that it's mounted on rubber bands stretched from the corners of the cabin. So smaller gear will be fine in a smaller model.

Yes, I rather fancy this one. Like BEB, I'm also unsure what the model will be yet. Although I have a couple in mind, I also have a few old plans and plans handbooks to trawl through

I'm for it. Model choice as yet uncertain. I've chosen about 12 models so far.

I'm in with two stock kits-
LiteWorks kit for Vic Smeed's Popsie cabin job
Classic RC's kit for Vik Husak's King Altair aerobatic job
Two completely different styles of vintage model.
Schizophrenic, moi?

This sounds really enjoyable. Been meaning to build another vintage model for ages, so this will be the spur I need.

Thinking of a Diamond Demon with either a DC Spitfire or Sabre at the moment...

I quite fancied building a "Good News" but BB only make a kit for "Great News" which might be a bit big for my hangar. So I'm still looking....

I'm in,

Top of my list is the Ben Buckle elf (I have an unhealthy fetish for Biplanes!)

Also like the flair black magic and BB super 60.

It will be my First Biplane, my first vintage model and first go at a built up fuselage.

Hi BEB,

I'm up for it again, and hopefully can make greenacres this year. I would go for a Mercury Matador probably guided free flight with one of my old diesels and maybe an electric powered KK Bandit. Poppet or Tomboy for electric FF with a Derick Knight pro-filer, small brushless ESC and motor.

Hi Tom,

I think you've slightly misunderstood here mate.

When we say "vintage" what we mean is the model is vintage - not the prototype.

So what we are looking for is models designed before about 1965 or a recent design model but in a very "retro" style. Take a look here to see the sort of models we mean. These were among the very first types of RC model - so we're going to recreate the pioneering days of our hobby.

Re the voting - you should be able to see a panel in the left column with a heading like "The 2012 Mass Vintage Build" that's the vote!

It would be if the plan or kit was produced prior to 1970

I'm in - Ben Buckle Mini Super, in memory of my KK Mini Super, which never flew, over 35 years ago.

Q: Which part of building a new traditional balsa aeroplane do you enjoy the most?

 Research & choosing the model
 Building the fuselage
Installing the engine and radio systems
 Building the flying surfaces
 Covering/painting/finishing
 All of it!
None of it. I'd rather someone else did it!
