Shouldn't this include potential pensioners in the title?

I've signed it and I'll probably never get old enough to draw a pension!

I've seen my "normal retirement age" rise 5 years for my work pension and then I'll have to wait another year for my state one. In practice, I'm still hoping to join the horde of happy pensioners on this site and at my club when (if!) I get to 60 but it may mean looking for some suplemental income until the state pension kicks in at 66 - or 67 - or 93 - or whatever it's gone up to by then...

It grates a bit when I think about how one of my clubmates who worked for the same company was allowed to take early retirement at 54 with immediate full pension (enhanced to 40 years service) 11 years or so ago!

P.S. I've signed it as well.

Martin - my state pension will only arrive at 68, and I don't have a company pension. I'm probably going to start a private pension pot when I start my new job.

I certainly don't envy people at your end of their careers, Olly - the relative job security and long term career paths with pensions we enjoyed when I started work in the early 70s has pretty much gone and it seems that very few expect to stay more than 3 of 4 years in any post these days.

Martin average 18 months to 2 year in my industry....

I hope the new place will be a bit more, half the battle is finding an employer who gives pay rises which reflect cost of living increases. If you need/want more money you have to leave, or threaten to, and once you have threatened then it can be very difficult to stay.

I hope the place I'm moving to I will be with for at least 5-10 years. I will have to see, but I'm joining at the right time.

Those people who are complaining about increased retirement age should take note that todays 65 year old man probably left school at 15 or 16 so put in either 50 or 49 years work. Will todays younger people put in 50 years hard slog? More likely they didnt start work till age 22 or more after school , university and a gap year, so they wont put in 50 years work unless they work to 72.

What we men should be creating merry hell over is the lack of equality now with men at present having to work to 65 while women of 60 are already getting a government pension. Gross inequality! We are robbed of 5 years pension!
