Links probably cause the moderators most problems on this forum. The software allows us to paste long links into forum posts but then long links sometimes mess up the page formatting. This issue seems to affect less browers lately but it still affects some.

So, the correct way:-

Step 1 In window or brower tab go to the website that you want to link to. Highlight the whole internet address (URL) and copy it. (once highlighted press Ctrl and C together or right click and select copy)

Step 2 In the forum thread where you want the link DON'T paste the link, instead type a word or two that will work as a title for your link. The name of the site or click here maybe.

Step 3 Highlight those words, then click on the link button above.

Step 4 Paste the internet address (URL) in there and press OK.

Hey presto - a working llink in the thread that doesn't mess up the page.

If you want to try out the linking procedure, folks, please do so in the Sandbox thread - it's there for you to play...wink 2

One thing that I wonder about - by default links on this site open in the current tab or window, would it be possible to do like most other sites and open links in a new tab or window?

Yes Bob, when you are in the link area pasting your URL, you'll see another Tab alongside Link Info called Target. Click on that and there are some choices, choose New Window.

Incidentally If you're on someone else's post and want to follow a link using a new window, right click the link and make your choice.

Hope that helps?

thanks Chris, but I'm guessing that most people use the default setting, which appears to be 'not set', ie current tab.

Hi Jim, I think you're pretty close there. Somehow you managed to get this into the link box -

http://www.modelflying.co.uk/forums/**LINK**

I think what you wanted was probably just http://www.modelflying.co.uk/forums/

The word **LINK** was what you highlighted in your post before you clicked the button I would think? No need to add that to what goes in the link box.

Let me know if I can help..
Cheers
Chris
