I have started gathering bits for my 72" Tony Nijhuis B-17, this is my first go at an electric model.

Looking around the internet I found the build comes between 7 and 9 lbs.

I was planning on around 200 watts plus for each motor.

I have just bought 4 motors from GS, this is the spec:

XYH35-36 1050kv 30A Brushless Outrunner

Kv or Rev/V: 1050
Diameter: 35mm
Length: 36mm
Weight: 112g
Shaft Diameter: 4mm
Max Amp: 31A
Lipo: 2-3s

I plan on using 8x4 or 9x6 props, I did try putting the information into ecalc but I am not sure how to interpret the results or if I am near the 200 odd watts I will need.

Before I waste money buying more bits, am I on the right track or am I going to have to sell my motors??

Can any one tell me if the above motor is good for 200 - 250 watts?

To me being max 30A they are max of 300 watts is that right?

I am a bit restricted with prop choice to 8" or 9" diameter

Dean, the max current is the criteria to use. If you are going to use 3s, the battery under load will read about 10v, so if it's loaded to 30A you have 300W.

I've never used this motor before but the 8x4 & 9x6 sound about the right size.
IMO your best plan would be to best run a motor on 3s with the 8x4 & measure the current. If it's well under 30A try it with a 9x6.
