Looking at some foamy mods for my glider and USA sites are using 3m tape overlay for leading edge etc.. I particularly want tape. Could anyone please recommend a clear tape for the job, sourcable in the UK.

The "proper" stuff would be 3m Helicopter tape, this was originally designed for protecting heli blades and is very good stuff but is rather expensive at £20 a roll. Available direct from 3M **LINK**

"Diamond Tape", which I think is made by Sellotape. is good high quality stuff. Price wise - its more than your standard Sellotape but not silly money. It sticks very well and, as the name implies, is crystal clear - no "yellowish" tinge that you sometimes get with cheaper tapes.

I use a reinforced 2" wide parcel tape made by Scotch. It has fibres running through it, and has saved my foamies on many an occasion. See here

It is for a Radian. Looking at doing the mods, aileron, reset tail and linkages etc. as in video on Utube.

Going with 3M parcel tape.

Would like to hear from anyone who has done these mods?

Thanks to all for contributions.

I think the tape is actually "3 mil" clear tape. If you are refering to the Paul Naton video. Don't forget that they work in imperial - 3 mil is 3 thousandths of an inch.

The tape he uses in the video is hp260 by Duck of duck tape fame.

Zagi packaging tape might do the job, something like sellotape won't.

I have the radian pro, not the radian. I feel the biggest problem with the pro is that the tail is rather bendy and the elevator double centres a lot. I have taken mine appart and have installed better aileron and elevator pushrods and rehinged both surfaces. I think I will put a couple of carbon tows down fuse to stiffen it to. I haven't got round to finishing it because I have bought something else, which is a better model.

3M Parcel tape will need covering with something (coloured tape) to keep sunlight off it, because without it, after a few months the adhesive becomes dry and brittle.
