Great stuff David, I look forward to your build. Unfortunately the Razer heads are out of stock right now but will soon be available again. Malcolm is also making his adjustable motor mount available though the drawing is included in Part 2 for those who fancy making it.

I have had a number of emails regarding the colour scheme, the prototype projection drawing and template for the Union Jack are available HERE free to download. The templates were printed for me at Staples (Now Office Outlet ), cut out and stuck them onto covering, these were cut then applied to the blue base colour.

Luckily I have a small stash of HK heads smiley. Not sure when this will get built - finishing the Panther now, Have the DAG60 plans from Malcolm as well, plus a couple of fixed wing projects jostling for bench time too, as well as helis - so little time nd so much to do!

Hi Rich,

Can I just check, will this site be the build log for the Revolver 2? assuming yes?, I've got a question. On bottom of parts F1C, FL2, F3 and FL4, there are what looks like 6mm cut-outs. The plan indicates a strip of something runs from front to back of the fuselage, is this for 6mm balsa strips to help reinforce the 3mm bottom sheeting?

P.S. I'm really enjoying the build by the way.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Glad your enjoying the build thumbs up

Yes, the 6mm square balsa strips runs from back to front on the lower inner edges of the fuselage sides to make for the radius sanded to these edges after.

If I have a photo I will upload, its no problem to draw a cross section of the fuselage if you think it will help?

Hi Rich,

Apologies for the delay in responding. Clearly I had a senior moment, as I saw the reference to the 6mm balsa strip in the picture diagram in RCME after you'd replied. Thanks for responding though,

On a separate note, will this thread be used as a build log?

Cheers

Mike

I did try fitting the 6mm curved balsa longerons a bit tricky so laminated them from two 3mm 20190426_172829.jpgstrips fitted one after the other. Installed the balsa side cheeks last night, I just steam them gently over a kettle and they soften enough to put a gentle curve in them. As Richard says, cyano in place. As always, more than one way to arrive at the same outcome.

Looking good Cuban,

Probably a better method of adding the lower strip, I think I used some soft stuff.

On another note I was messaged yesterday regarding a possible typo error to the write up, the gap that is created between the two main laminated formers for the mast holder is 12mm and not 9mm as I wrote. No problem really as the formers are correct.

Cuban,

Good idea to laminate. I used 6mm square strips soaked in boiling water, it worked, but there was a slight cracking sound as the longerons were bent. I think I got away with it though. I've made one amendment to the design by adding the orange snakes within the fuselage for the rudder cables to run (hope you don't mind Rich?) The blank for the canopy took quite some time to get the profile about right.

I'll upload photos once I figure out how to do it

Now onto the blades.

Cheers all

DoA, you're getting ahead of me by the look of it yes, not too much progress since the weekend because of other distractions. Calling into Balsa cabin tomorrow to stock up on material for the canopy plug, and blades - two areas that are going to be a challenge but that's what it's all about. I experimented with a smaller juice bottle yesterday and was surprised at how much it contracted when heated, so hopefully I'll make a reasonable job using a bigger pop bottle.

Watched a YouTube video about making the blades (not one of Richard's) and that covered getting chordwise balance that I'd not considered before. I presume Richard will cover all this in the next mag issue. I don't have a large belt sander as I saw Richard using, but have an idea that might work just as well, will post if any good. Fascinating and absorbing project that's a nice change from the lengthy plan builds..

BTW, for the first time in over 50 years of modelling, I cut my first components yesterday from depron. Nothing out of the ordinary for many, but quite a revelation for me! Can now see how useful and versatile it can be.

DOA,

The tubes are a good idea thumbs up

Cuban,

Yes, the blades and their balancing are covered in part 2 along with a number of other important things regarding the set up.

On another note we are having the first of our autogyro flying days this coming Saturday over at Peterborough, if anyone is interested I will ask the organiser to post details? there are sure to be a few Revolvers turn up.

Canopy Capers! I haven't seen a lemonade bottle as big as 3L in either Asda or Lidl, not had the time to search elsewhere at the moment, so any pointers to who stocks a suitable product please?

Rich can you post up some snaps of the canopy and the fuz with the canopy off please? In particular the rear/servo end? I am considering making mine an open canopy version or making the canopy out of blue foam like Rich’s Rex.

Tim,

Yep, got two 3L bottles of R Whites zero calorie lemonade from Iceland this morning. A quid each. Tastes terrible, might be ok for water based paint brush cleaner - nice bottles though. yes
