I'm sure I read in a thread on here (or possibly elsewhere) quite recently of someone buying an SAS product. I believe you have to ring them to place an order - they have a website, but I don't think you can order from it.

Phil - the SAS website is here but you do need to give him a call to place an order. Phone number is at the bottom of the page. There's also a price list on the site.

Well I spoke to Alan this morning and made my order for a cobra (it will get posted today with 48 hrs delivery)

If anyone has any tips on taping it or flying it I would love to hear them

this will be my first glider and first attempt at slope soaring

Phil, Alan gives very detailed instructions on how to tape. Basics; sand the surface to remove debris, tape with 6mm overlap starting from the back to front surface. Personally recommend that you use methylated spirit or mix of meths and auto paint thinner to wipe over the surface. When taping over tape at least clean with meths to remove the release agent used to stop tape sticking to itself. So after taping with cross weave tape wipe over it with meths before applying the coloured tape. When I built my Fusion I did not wipe over with an organic solvent and the tape is lifting. When I have done repairs I have cleaned the EPP with a mix of meths and auto thinners and the tape has bonded very well.

Cheers Rob I would not have thought to use a cleaner on the tape

As one of the three mentioned by Royski, the cobra is an excellent choice as it is easy to fly for a beginner, yet great fun in more experienced hands.

The ailerons and elevator are very effective and the recommended throws seem somewhat excessive.

If you have not slope soared before Phil then I would recommend that you set up initially with half of the throws suggested and used plenty of exponential - say 60%

Set the C of G to the most forward recommendation and you should have a nice smooth maiden.

On a good slope, the Cobra will fly happily in 10mph yet will also penetrate well in 30mph.

Good luck and have fun with what is a great little model.

Looks too nice Phil. They look better after a few months of use. Then they have that "prize fighter" look with a bent nose and scars. Then they look like a proper SAS product
