I don't have a smart phone ...or carry a camera. I was filling up my lorry at Cornwall Services, Roche yesterday when I spied a Dragon Rapid heading Sw. It apparently ended up at Lands End International Airport...wink

Thank you very much for your kind comments.

I have been thinking, that I have only ever once been published. That was a long time ago, in I believe a German magazine. I do not think I was directly asked, it was my teacher (for German) who submitted the piece. I did keep a copy for a little while, no money was made, I do not think. I do not think I was even bothered, being far more concerned if I would pass the German exam, at the end of the year. The reason being, I think that the grammar was spruced up by her. I did not even tell my mother, certainly not my dad (as he would have dismissed it as a waste of time).

Yesterday, too high to see it clearly was, I think, a Sea Fury, flying over our flying site in South Norfolk. It was doing big loops in and out of the clouds, what a sound! Shame it didn't come lower.

Yesterday Friday I was in Cumbria a little south of Cockermouth. Whist talking with a neighbour at the Erfolg Turm summer residence, a Tornado flew over at very low level. It was in desert camouflage. It was apparently following the same track that Tucarnos commonly fly, although a bit lower.

We mostly see them flying a reciprocal path, which I think takes them out onto the Solway Firth, passing somewhere near to Maryport, although I have never seen them there. Then again, I mostly go to Alonby, again where I have not seen them. I am guessing that typically they tun before Maryport, and follow the edge of the hills along the south shore of the Solway.

There seem to be a number of frequently flown circuits in the region, down low along Bassenthwaite Water, also I have seen them along the Gap at Tebay, with Parasails flying, the Tucarnos being lower.

At our flying field this morning, a drone of twin radials and an olive C47/DC3 with invasion striping flew over from the west presumably heading Biggin cct.

About 15 mins later the usual Spitfire came closer than usual to our field after take off from 29 due the wind direction.

I live on the edge of a small village in E Kent, a pair of low flying C130s passed by very close 1 hour ago. 50 years ago I was at RAF Colerne waiting to fly in a new C130K to form 48 Sqn in Singapore.

I live 3 miles from Leeds Bradford airport and A400s have for the last couple of months, on Fridays, have been using the airport for procedural approach training, regularity around lunchtime.

A couple of weeks ago on the Friday, I was at the North Leeds flying site which is approx 5 miles north west of LBA at around 2:00 pm when an A400 suddenly appeared in a steep bank with a lot of power on, at eye level approx 2 miles east of the site and decended out of sight to what must have been less than 500ft into a valley heading NW.

A flying colleague and myself watched half expecting to hear a loud bang and see a cloud of black smoke!

The manoeuvre was repeated in the same area 20 minutes later with less bank and power.

Spectacular but scary!

Denis, that's the ugliest looking "Spitfire" I've ever seen. The entire shape of the fuselage doesn't look like any mark of Spitfire I've seen, and the proportion of the fin to the fuselage looks ridiculous. It's a little bit hard to believe that this thing complies with Australian regulations. John

Whilst driving back from the airfield at Ashbourne towards Belper yesterday I spotted what looked like a microlight. As I got closer I could see it had a rotor. Unfortunately, as I was both driving and alone I couldn't look too closely but when I was stopped at some traffic lights I tried to see if it was a heli or an autogyro. There didn't seem to another propeller but I didn't get a really good sighting.

Are there any microlight helicopters? I thought not and it was more likely an autogyro.

Geoff
