I built and flew a few rubber and Jetex powered free flight models as a schoolboy back in the 1950s but once I got to 16, motor cycles took over. I competed in trials for years as a member of 'traditional' clubs. I then took up dinghy racing with my wife and cycling as a means of getting fit. We cycle toured energetically for years on singles and tandem, including camping until a serious cycle accident put a stop to both sailing and serious cycling back in 1990 when I was 50.
So I took up the less athletic pursuit of RC modelling, first yachts and then aeroplanes. I built and flew mostly glow powered models but always tried to succeed with electric flight with very moderate success until the brushless/LiPo revolution ushered in practical electric flight. Now I'm almost 100% electric and have several successful glow to electric conversion builds to my name. The most ambitious is a quarter scale Percival Mew Gull on 6S LiPos which has at the time of writing, just a short but promising maiden.
