My interest in aircraft began with an Airfix Spitfire at age 13. By 17 I was a CCF cadet with a PPL thanks to a Flying Scholarship, and strangely, no-one ever told me I ought to have to build a Chipmunk in order to fly one! A desire to "give something back" led me to do several years in the RAFVR(T) as Training Officer with several ATC Squadrons, but then, as family and work commitments came along my interest in aviation had to be sidelined until 7 years ago, (by then in my mid-50s), when a pal and I each bought an electric model and a slope-glider, and we joined the SSA in Sheffield. Then, after a bout of ill-health I retired north of the border to the land of gales and rain, and now take regular doses of RC Therapy with a couple of friends whenever the weather permits. I only fly ARTF electric models up to 2Kg (no interest in i/c).
