In the next issue of RCM&E we'll have a review of the new Seagull Sparrow Hawk. This ARTF version of the classic mid-30's racer is an unusual, yet very welcome arrival on the ARTF market. We've just received some pictures from J.Perkins (UK distributor) showing the model being raced by the Seagull design team in Australia.
The R/C Golden Era Air Races started around 12 years ago in Adelaide to re-create the full size air races of the 1930's. The Adelaide event is held every two years and attracts over 70 pilots across the different classes. With the availability of ARF aircraft which meet the rules, the Giant Scale Air Racing scene has seen considerable growth with events being held in regional towns where clubs host the racers.
Seagull designed their Sparrow Hawk with an eye on this class of event along with general sport flying. The model will be available in two sizes, an 85" version and a smaller 70" version. These racers look to be the larger version as far as we can tell. We've been flying the smaller model and we'll tell you all about her in the next (Aug) issue.
