Strengths: Good after sales support from west wings,(they replaced my canopy FOC when I damaged it) well thought out construction process, adequate instruction for the build
Weaknesses: Needs rcomendations for brushless/LiPo power trains. recomended aileron set up is poor but see overall text
Overall: The construction follows a fairly simply process with a lot of "tab and slot" to ensure ease of alignment, and most intermediate builders won't have a problem. In fact I think most builders with 1 or 2 models under their belt would find it not to complicated. This said I'm informed by West wings that the kit is being redesigned to speed the construction process and include brushless recomendations, in an attempt to compete a little with the artf mkt! So a simpler build in the offing. my only deviation from the plans was to fit wing servo's for the aierons, instead of a central servo and snakes (the chord is to narrow to curve the snakes without binding), and I altered the motor mount to accept my dualsky XM PR.25 motor. Which pulls 130w on an 1800 3sip loong max bty with a 9x6 graupner folding cam prom. this set up gives good authority on take off, and flight times so far have been in the 20 min plus region. If you find a thermal I'm guessing only bordem or tea time will bring it down. The flight envelope is quite extensive and our club chairman Adrian had very smooth loops, axial rolls, stall turns and a flat spin of sorts from it. The stall takes a little inducing and when it does arrive results in the left wing dropping a little then the nose drops and she starts to fly again, so quite benign really. The landing can be a little quick but quite stable, though you do need a good hardwood skid along the belly to prevent to much ground rash occuring. mind you the fuselage is of pretty sturdy constuction all damage so far limited to scuffing of the profilm. all in all a nice flat field glider, and I cant wait too try it on a slope in some wind. The vital stats are Wingspan 59" AUW appr 20oz giving it some presence in the air and on a low fast pass it looks stunning. If you like gliders you love this one.
