Multiplex joins the 2.4GHz revolution

Multiplex have been busy rolling out their first 2.4GHz R/C system over the last few months so it’s time to take a closer look.
The company are keen to stress that this is a 2nd generation 2.4GHz system that includes data telemetry (more on this in a moment). Called M-Link, the system is based on frequency hopping and is available in the form of dedicated Cockpit SX and Royal Pro transmitters or as as upgrade card to Royal Pro and Profi systems.
Data telemetry is a facility that a number of the new Multiplex 2.4GHz receivers can provide. By plugging optional sensors into the receiver, data can be sent back to the transmitter and displayed on the LCD screen.
Three sensors are available at the moment and measure voltage, current and temperature. Imagine being able to look at your transmitter screen and see how much current the motor is pulling, What the voltage levels are or how hot the motor is? Low voltage will trigger a warning signal from the transmitter too, very handy!
The new range of M-Link receivers are ready for Li-Po batteries and can handle a 3.5 – 9.0 voltage range, they’re happy with a 2S Li-Po battery therefore without the need for a voltage regulator. The receivers all feature two complete receiving circuits operating in parallel to ensure good reception.
The range-topping unit pictured here is available in 9, 12 and 16 channel versions. It features replaceable aerials with gold plated connectors meaning that longer aerials can be fitted in certain models (perhaps carbon fuselages) where required.
