September 2022

This month we start our regular columns with Shaun Garrity’s Retro Ramblings as he reports from the 10th Pontefract Retro & Single Channel Fly-in. Next up is Weekenders with Alex Whittaker, who meets up with his friends at the Delyn Model Flying Club to celebrate the BMFA Centenary in grand style. Finally, in Make It Scale, after catching up on some scale news, Danny Fenton adds some fine details to his nearly finished DB Auster.

For this month’s Pro-Plan, we have a 48-inch span 1:5 scale model of the Max Brügger Colibri that was built by Mike Benwell to replicate his own full-size version of the Swiss homebuilt touring aircraft.

Starting this month’s kit reviews, David Ashby files a long-distance test report after a year of Multiplex Lentus ownership, before Mike Freeman flight tests the latest EDF jet fighter from XFly-Model, an eye-catching Su-27 Flanker in Ukrainian Air Force disruptive camouflage livery.

Our feature articles start with Alex Whittaker’s last but one Model Magic report, in which he takes a close look Darrin Bonfield’s astounding museum quality DHC-1 Chipmunk. Next, in the first of a two-part feature, Kenny Morton describes his build of an impressive AW139 Search & Rescue helicopter. Then it’s back to Alex, who joins in the fun at the Deeside Spring Fun Fly 2022; he always greatly enjoyed this ‘local Club’ season starter. Moving on, Shaun Garrity describes the recent build from a magazine plan of Mike Trew’s ‘Delta Lady’, a favourite delta slope soarer from the 1970s, before Roy Thompson wraps things up with yet another nostalgic model build, this time tackling a Chicken Hawk biplane kit from Retro RC in the USA.
